Aquarius Sub Aqua Club
Aquarius Sub Aqua Club

Club History

The inaugural meeting of the club was held on the 5th May 1994, at which time the club was named “T. S. Wrekin Sub-Aqua Club”. One of the original aims of the club was to provide support for the Telford sea cadet diving section. “T S” standing for Training Ship.

The club became a member of the Sub-Aqua Association, number 829, and commenced its weekly pool session on the 1st July 1994 at Newport pool where the club has continued to meet until November 2021 when major work commenced to improve the carbon footprint of the building. Part of this work reduced the maximum depth from 2.7 metres to 1.5 metres. This reduced depth meant that scuba training could not be effectively undertaken, and the club moved to the Short Wood swimming pool in Wellington in January 2022.

At a meeting on the 4th October 1996 the club changed its name to the “Aquarius Sub-Aqua club” and the Sea Cadet diving section continued in its own right as a junior branch of the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) with its own Diving Officer and committee.  Whilst no longer part of our club the sea cadets have continued to use the clubs pool sessions in what is seen as a special relationship between the two clubs.

The club aims continues to be to organise diving for its members and to provide newer and less experienced members with training and guidance in line with the SAA’s guide lines.

Remember always to dive safe and enjoy yourselves, diving is lots of fun.
